Editing User:DeltaCore/Main Page Contest

A small contest is being run for the creation of a new main page for this wiki. Hooray!

If this contest works well, future similar contests could be held. 

== Motivation ==

The current main page was quickly thrown together after this wiki moved away from the Wikia platform and has a number of issues. For example:
* It is designed to look best on large resolutions like 1920x1080, not suitable for smaller resolutions or mobile
* It does not promote wiki content well enough (for example - the Wikipedia front page links to featured articles and recent events from the home page)
* Links to all commonly accessed articles are not necessarily prominently displayed on the front page

In addition, we have recently created a homepage for the Bit Busters club at [https://bitbusters.club bitbusters.club], so a new main page needs a heavy focus on content about the wiki itself rather than general community information. 

== Suggestions ==

You'll be more likely to win the contest if your submitted home page design covers these key aspects:
* Visually pleasing on both the default desktop theme (Vector) and the default mobile theme (MinervaNeue). Check your entries on a mobile device to ensure it looks good there. 
* Heavy focus on maximizing visibility to key wiki content. Definitely include links to CC1, CC2 and the CCLPs. The new design should focus mostly on wiki content, but could also link to external resources if appropriate.

Note: The skin/theme of the wiki is non-negotiable and not part of this contest. The default skins/theme of the wiki will NOT be changed to accommodate a new homepage. 

== Rules ==

* Contest opens effective at the time this page was created (Sunday, May 19 in most timezones) and will run until at least Sunday, June 2 at 12 noon GMT. Contest deadline may be extended beyond this time depending on number of entries received. 
* Only one entry per person, and each contest entry should be an individual effort. It is OK to help people with their entries, but only the person submitting the entry will have get credited and be eligible for the prize.
* Be honest - don't steal other people's work and submit it as your own. Don't steal ideas from other people's entries. 
* Wiki admins will consider installing MediaWiki extensions to assist with building a new homepage on a case-by-case basis on request. 
* [[User:Cowman]] will select the contest winner after the deadline date from the submitted entries. '''In the event none of the submissions are suitable, a best design will still be selected and prize awarded - but the Wiki admins reserve the right to combine ideas from various submissions to build a suitable new main page.''' The wiki admins also reserve the right to edit a winning entry before making it the home page. 

== Prize ==

The designer of the best entry will receive a $25 CAD [https://store.steampowered.com/digitalgiftcards/selectgiftcard digital Steam gift card]. The prize will be delivered digitally after the winner is announced through the Steam website. Steam states that the funds will be converted to the recipient's home country currency. Arrangements can be made with [[User:Cowman]] for the prize to be delivered. 

No substitute or alternate prizes will be offered. A cash equivalent is not being offered. If you cannot or do not wish to accept the Steam gift card prize, no prize will be issued.
