WebCC
WebCC is a web-based game based on Chip's Challenge, created by PsuFan. It was first created in 2009.
GameplayEdit
WebCC follows the same basic goal as Chip's Challenge: gathering computer chips to open the socket and exit. It is largely based on the MS ruleset and features most tiles present in Chip's Challenge 1, sometimes with slight changes (for example, teleports work in reading order, rather than reverse reading order). However, not all tiles are present: notably, fireballs are the only monsters in WebCC. It also features several new tiles:
- Fire sticks, which usually behave like dirt, but if a fireball moves on it, it turns to fire;
- Toggle button for fire stick/fire (dark orange);
- Toggle button for water/dirt (light blue);
- Toggle button for water > ice > fire;
- Toggle button for key colour;
- Toggle button for boot type;
- Button that rotates force floors 90° clockwise (dark green);
- Ability to clone boots and keys;
- Fake wall that looks like a regular wall but can be erased.
Most of these tiles have since been ported to Lexy's Labyrinth.
The tileset used by WebCC is largely based on the Kayu interface by Conner Hawke, but Chip is taken from the default Tile World tileset by Brian Raiter.
WebCC includes a level editor. There is currently no easy way to convert levels from WebCC to other platforms, other than manually recreating them. As of 2021, 6473 levels were created in WebCC, 2863 of which are publicly available.
PlatformsEdit
WebCC is written in Flash, and could formerly be played in any modern web browser with the Flash Player browser plugin. The plugin was discontinued on 31 December 2020; therefore, PsuFan and Craig Vilbig created a downloadable desktop player for Windows systems, making it possible to continue playing WebCC in 2021 and beyond.
A WebCC app for iOS devices is also available at a cost 3.99$ (the Flash version is free). The app does not include the level editor, and has contains several glitches that are absent from the Flash version that, at times, render levels unsolvable.
