About me
Hello everyone! My name is J.B. Lewis, but most people in Chip's Challenge circles know me by my first name, John. I've been a huge fan of CC since my childhood, first beating the game at eight years old - which had taken up three years of my life at that point! Most of it was fairly easy to complete, except for Totally Unfair, which was the only level for which I needed a solution online. Once I beat the game, I found other CC sites online, many of which were very helpful and informative. Alice Voith's Chips Plus site was definitely one of my favorites, especially with all the helpful maps and the information regarding the Quest for 6,000,000, which has since been discovered to be impossible, sadly. At the time, though, I was determined to go for it and ended up with a total score of around 5,840,000 or so. It was frustrating since I didn't know about how to achieve the complete level bonus in the game while playing.
But much more exciting than playing was the prospect of creating new levels with ChipEdit, which was available all the way back in good ol' 1998! I spent a lot of time working on new levels. It was so refreshing to do this on the computer, especially since many of my previous compositions had been drawn on graph paper in the past. Eventually, I completed a set of 149 levels, as well as a smaller set of about 70 levels, but unfortunately, both are lost now. As more time passed, I began to lose some interest in CC, but that all stopped in 2001. I was determined to join the quest again and see if anyone else out there had made some progress. It took me nearly forever to find Ruben Spaans' high score page with an updated scoreboard; for quite a while, I was still going off of the info on the Chips Plus page. It was rather funny to play the game, look at the scoreboard, and "set a new record," only to discover that all of these new records had already been set when I found the MSN Charter Chipsters' scoreboard and later Ruben's site. Just from the maps and information on the Chips Plus site, I was able to raise my score to 5,972,500 or so. But I had still yet to find the AVI site, which for some reason, took me even longer to locate than Ruben's page. Once I did locate it, though, I was able to raise my score even higher to around 5,975,700. At the time, I wasn't particularly inclined to post on the newsgroup, but I did spend quite a few years lurking and watching all the activity there.
Finally, that magic day arrived: February 9, 2002. It was the long-awaited release of Chip's Challenge Level Pack 2, and I was eager to discover what surprises and adventures awaited. It was also during this time that my family and I moved from California to Texas, and many of the uneventful days after the move were spent progressing through CCLP2. I can't remember what my last level to complete was (probably either Warehouse II or Cloner's Maze), but it was quite fulfilling to play through it all. In the years ahead, I didn't spend a whole lot of time improving my CCLP2 score, at least until more recently.
Finally, in 2005, I made the plunge and joined the newsgroup after reporting a few scores for level sets on David Stolp's site, especially the incredible TomR1. One of my friends had told the newsgroup about me, so I figured it was time to join and become a part of the community. Over the past few years, I had also worked on several new levels that became known as JohnL1, although this set was later recreated as JL1, which is currently on David's site and the Yahoo! Group. Since then, I've had a wonderful time getting to know the other members of the CC community. Right now, I am currently serving as the coordinator for the development of Chip's Challenge Level Pack 3, which is set to be released in the months ahead.
Currently, my CC1 score stands at 5,977,530, and my CCLP2 score is 6,050,640.
